What should you compare?

1. Success rate

Success rate shows how reliably the proxy infrastructure completes requests during a test. A higher rate generally means fewer retries and more predictable workloads.

Do not mix proxy connection failures with website-side blocking. They measure different things and should be reported separately.

2. Median and P95 latency

Median latency represents typical response time. P95 shows the slower end of the distribution and helps identify occasional delays that an average can hide.

If median latency is 800 ms, around half of successful requests are faster than 800 ms. A P95 of 1.8 seconds means about 95% complete within that time.

3. IP diversity

For rotating residential proxies, unique exit IPs and reuse rate help show how varied the observed pool is. A lower reuse rate means the same exit IP appeared less often during the test.

4. Geographic targeting

The 67 failed requests were classified as proxy connection failures. No authentication, timeout, target HTTP, invalid response, or unknown failures were recorded.

For geo verification, 9,816 observed exit IPs were checked. Of those, 9,425 matched the requested US location and 391 were classified differently by the external geolocation source.

How to benchmark residential proxies fairly

A useful benchmark keeps the important variables consistent. Otherwise, differences in hardware, location, concurrency, or request volume can make the results misleading.

  • Use the same environment: Same machine, network, client, and geographic origin.
  • Use the same target: Infrastructure tests should use the same controlled endpoint.
  • Keep concurrency equal: Compare networks under the same request load.
